Monarch HG China review anyone? (1 Viewer)

There are no Monarch HG models MIC. All the Monarch HG models are MIJ.
Please ck the thread about it from Feb of 2024, which never goes on to a test of an HG mic...hence the question. I also asked B&H photo and was told China. Just need the answer so I know whether to recommend to a friend who is interested.

The 30's or 42's or both are now made in China? I think that would seriously dampen sales of that product. I would never purchase a Chinese binocular now.
That's why I'm trying to find out for sure. I did ask the guy from B&H photo specifically about the MHG, as I understand the M5 and 7 are
MIC. Hoping the info he had was correct, but trying to get more verification one way or the other. Appreciate any digging/researching
anyone here has done on the issue.

The Nikon MHG binocular is Made in Japan and always has been. I don't know where that rumor started about them being Made in China, but it is false. I emailed Nikon and asked them where the Nikon MHG was made, and this was their email response.

Thanks, Dennis. An example of how easily rumors can get out of hand. Glad I asked.

Most optics companies have production in Asia, including Nikon which makes very few of its products in Japan. The Chinese can produce high quality products it is just that most people actually want a bargain and will not pay for top quality. The Chinese manufacturers refer to German quality, Japanese quality, and American quality to differentiate their products. Most Americans are not willing to pay for German quality optics, right or wrong.

For the past 40 years American companies have been actively encouraged by the government to move manufacturing jobs out of the country. Most recently John Deere management has decided to move all its production to Mexico where under NAFTA the made in Mexico tractors can be sold as being made in the USA.

Since the Nikon QC is always the same only 'Muricans with their unfounded and irrational anti-China hysteria will have a problem.
You are stereotyping the AMERICANS , not cool .
I have had 20-30 made in China binoculars . I have had 6 made in Japan and 1 made in Portugal . Presently have 1 made in Japan and two made in China .
I have always appreciated the quality and feel of the made in Japan binoculars over chinese made . The chinese made binoculars leave me wanting more with the exception of my Papilio

While I accept inevitability of globalization I also ‘vote’ with my $. Thus I always buy local first, then regional, then international with attempt to support economies whose policies are in line with my ethics and whose trade practices are fair.

Yes it’s tricky and convoluted and often full of unexpected contradictions. But I try…
YMMV!

It is true that Deere is moving some production to Mexico, but certainly not all, you are wrong about
that. The Guardian is a left-leaning paper and is often found to not be factual.

I don't want to this to turn into politics, but the unions got there way, with higher wages, so the
result is now the companies can simply slow or cut jobs or a plant entirely.
High taxes, wages and regulations make it harder for companies for do business in the USA.

Wages?

Similar view. That's why I recently bought a Maven!

In the U.S. maybe (though lots of PRC binos are sold in the U.S.), but as one of our esteemed contributors is fond of telling us, Nikon sell a lot of binoculars, all around the world...

Most Americans are not willing to pay for German quality optics, right or wrong.
To be honest I don't think most people anywhere are willing to pay for German quality optics. That is why both Zeiss and Leica have made in Japan or in the case of the Zeiss Terra, made in the PRC ranges. This was always the case, eg. the "Revue" range sold in West Germany were made in Japan (the PRC of the day), Binocollector has other Japanese binoculars sold in Germany under Teutonic-sounding names like "Adler".

And, to be perfectly honest, German quality isn't vital for birding either. For what most of us use 'em for, a birding binocular doesn't need to split Mizar or perform eye-popping feats of optical capability. You don't need a NL to enjoy the pastime of birding, any more than you need Leica "glass" to take interesting photos.

I think most intelligent people realise that it's not about quality. Rather, that some of us choose not to buy from an authoritarian state that represents a threat to its neighbours and democracies worldwide, and supports despots like Putin. This is neither irrational or hysterical, but a moral judgement.

PS. For fear of falling foul of forum protocols this is all I have to say on the matter, so please don't draw me into conversation about it.

That's a BS post Ignatius....how about mind your own business and worry about your own situation. My best friend's wife and children had to flee China. I guess their "hysteria" is irrational as well? After she was captured and forced to have an abortion by her employer and had to flee with her kids to New York to escape political persecution.

Your statement is the one that's irrational and unfounded. Losing regard for these bino forums more by the day. Collection of very strange dysfunctional people it seems.

You should try the Insects... section. Lots of oddballs there who don't like people, without their life-long expertise, trying the identify anything. My enthusiasm was quickly nipped in the bud on my first visit, so I've not been back.

Sounds terrible, let's see...
Lifelong experts:
These are almost impossible to do from photos.
There's nothing wrong with your photo it's just that there are so many similar looking and highly variable (in looks and size) species that ID from photos is often impossible. There are about 2500 species in the UK.
Very, very few insect species are identifiable with 100% certainty in the field or from photographs.
And then you:
... it seems plain (even for an idiot like me), that the insect in mine and the photographs from the Natural History Museum are identical.

I've seen a few visits like this to the binocular forum too...
