Strange house sparrow behavior (2 Viewers)

I have put a nest box with two compartments, and one another small pot. Since last week a pair has been in and out the nest box, however the pair is going in and out of all three compartments and seems to be trying to make nest in all thee of them, they would go in any of the compartment with holding grass in beak and will arrange it somewhere inside and come out.

So does house sparrow pair make multiple nests ?

Also today, for the first time, I have seen them mating near nest box, does that mean they have decided to use one of the nest box and are ready to lay eggs ? But why are they still trying to make nests in all three boxes.

With 3 equally suitable nest sites so close together, their instincts pull them in several directions at once--they're not human so can't think things through the way we would--and they just can't make up their minds. Eventually, something will tip the balance in favor of one or other of the candidates and they'll settle down to it.

Yeah, that really makes sense, also we dont have many house sparrows in neighbourhood so there's not much competition for nest box, no one is stopping them if they try to use all three of them.

I hope they will successfully mate and raise nestlings.

I hope they do too. Good luck to them (& to you also).

Since last two days, there's less activity at the nestbox, Pair does not visit the nest box frequently, Also seems there's a new pair around, I am not sure if it's the new, but this pair seems to be afraid of getting inside the nest box, they would fly around nest box, sit over it, try to look inside hole but afraid of getting inside.

I think i will have to wait and watch and see how it goes.
