We found a large white egg amongst the leaves and grass clippings. we have searched and searched online to try and identify this egg. it was freshly laid, but have no idea what would lay this time of year. It was about the size of a goose egg, but very very white, with no speckling at all. anybody have any ideas? Any info greatly appreciated.

Hi Regnig,

A warm welcome to BirdForum from all the Moderators and Admin. Glad to have you on board :t:

I am wondering if the egg could be a dove/pigeon. Over here Collared Doves breed most of the year.

Hi Regnig and a warm welcome to you.

Owls and BOPs tend to nest much earlier than the songbirds as well.

Hi Regnig and a warm welcome from me too

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I'll look forward to hearing all your news.

I have just found a large white egg on its own in a field, and wondered whether anyone might be able to help me to identify it please?

It is 90mm long x 60mm width. The egg surface is very slightly stippled when I hold it to the light. There was no nest / feathers nearby. I had thought that it perhaps looked like a goose egg, but do not know of any geese in the area (!). Is there a wild bird that might have laid an egg to match this description? I can't find a website with any answers!!
