How to change F-stop in D70 (1 Viewer)

Hey Everyone,

I've still got much to learn about my new D70. I have the 70-300mm VR lens too. I want to shoot in P mode but it wont let me change the F-stop. I think I use the wheel in front of the shutter release but it doesn't change. Can I not change it in P mode?

Also, when in M mode, the fastest shutter speed I get is 1". How can I change that?

Thanks!
David

I think the D70 has a sub command dial, the one on the front, from the pictures of it I've seen. Rotating that should change F stop.

In M the front dial changes aperture and the rear one shutter speed. you should be able to change shutter speed by rotating the rear dial. I've shot a d70 and it does work.

I've never used P, I always use M. Ok so I've gone and got a d80 AND I think what it does is allow you to change the parameters within a certain range. So if it reckons that it should be 1/70 and the f7.1 if you move one it compensates the other. Its kind of like an advanced auto. If you go out of an allowable range it just stops. Well that's what it seems like by playing.

I should add that the front dial changes aperture always in P A & M and the rear shutter speed always in P S M.

In P mode there is a built in program that sets the exposure. Rotating the rear dial will change the f stop and shutter speed combinations that still yield the same exposure.

Ok, well if I want to shoot in M mode, how do I get it so the shutter speed is slower than 1". It only goes to 1" when I change the dial....

In manual mode lightly press the shutter release button and then turn the main command dial to change shutter speed
