My Adobe Photoshop Elements will not recognize the raw file, even though it
has a drop down menu, in the all formats that say raw, what do I need to do.
Mine is upto 6.100.904 update.
Any help appreciated.
Hi, Go to the Adobe web page and download the raw file for your particular make and model of camera. It appears your version of Elements requires to be updated.

Have you followed all the instructions regarding the 8BI file (I think that's what it's called)? They're on the same page at Adobe's website
I went back and printed out the read me file PE installation, did what they said,
but I get a message saying this file is not compatible with my PE, the file I
downloaded was "Camera Raw 4.4.1 " any help would be appreciated.
What Camera are you using? I have Photoshop CS2 and the adobe camera raw associated with it will not open 40D raws (you have to upgrade to CS3 to be able to process 40D raws).
p.s, If you have a Canon camera you can always process the raws in Canons DPP which came free with the camera.
What Camera are you using David? you need to make sure that ACR (Adobe camera raw) that is in CS3 is up to date. Must admit I do not know about sRaw - I have a feeling that only Canon's DPP will process these files. Have you tried full size raws?I have just had CS3 loaded for me and it doesn't seem to be able to open RAW.
I have taken some shots ($)D) in sRAW, loaded them to the computer and tried-it just tells me "it is not the right kind of document".
Should I be doing something else??
I am fairly sure that old versions of elements (and PS) do not accommodate raws. You can always process the raw file in DPP and send it to elements for you usual PP (minimal processing in DPP can be done in less than a minute)I am using 450d and the Adobe Photoshop Elements, I assume 6 because of the 1st post
6.100.904. I assume thats the correct update thats on my computer. I don't know anything
about CS2 CS3, My PE 6 is a old copy going back to 2002, and I cant find the
original disks, (It might have come already loaded to the laptop) so i don't want to pay.
Like you say I can still use DPP which I am, but I do like some of the bits in PE 6.
However I got a bit further this time, I can see the file but no pic, and when you
hit the button to display nothing just not compatible .

You will be able to process a full 40D raw ok David but the last I heard sRaw's were not supported by adobe.Using 40D
As far as I know it is an up to date programme-will check tonight
Will also try full size and see if this is any different though I can't see why it should differentiate (wow-thats a 13 letter word from me![]()
Hi there - sounds like the same problem I have with my recently puchased Nikon D300, when I try to read with Elements 3.0. The raw file v. 4.4.1 (which D300 also produces) is only compatible with later versions of Adobe Photoshop, namely Photoshop Elements 5.0 and above, and CS3. A major pain I agree. So apparently the only option is to upgrade to one of these (for me I will buy the latest Elements 6 as for me CS3 is just too expensive!!). Even after loading one of these latest photoshops, you still have to download a plug-in from the net, only then will it all work. Just search on the net and you will I am sure find some more info on this issue.
Hope this helps
James
My PE 6 is a old copy going back to 2002,
...I have CS2... I downloaded DNG Converter and now convert the Raw files to DNG and it recognizes my camera for some reason. I don't know why it works but it does.
