Lesser Goldfinch (Carduelis psaltria psaltria) Five subspecies are recognized with only the nominate being mapped for Texas. Species sexually dimorphic. Photographed east of Raymondville, Willacy County, Texas, USA in a disturbed area around a stock pond in a large Common Sunflower stand (Helianthus annuus: Asteraceae) at ca. 5 m (16 ft) elevation. Agricultural area in the Gulf Prairies and Marshes Vegetational Area.

The Finch with his yellow underparts, its dark wings and the sunflower are a great harmonic composition. Top capture and awesome finding.
