Dark Fishing Spider
Dark Fishing Spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus: Pisauridae) The body of females like this specimen ranges in size from 1.5-2.6 cm (0.59-1.02 in) with their legs measuring from 5.0-9.0 cm (1.97-3.54 in). Males are much smaller. Females can have an overall length of 15.1 cm (5.9 in) long including their legs; about the size of this girl. This spider was positioned ca. 31 cm (12 in) above the water line in the swamp on a Bald Cypress Tree (Taxodium distichum: Cupressaceae). Photographed from a board walk meandering through a small cypress swamp in Palmetto Island State Park south of Abbeville along the Vermillion River, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, USA.
