    Speculative 10x30/32 question

If you like the 8x32 ELs I'd hunt down the 10x32 ELs - same size, still a decent FOV and personally I don't find the exit pupil makes them any fiddlier eye placement wise.

Budget 16x binoculars or straight scope?

Used they're often under £300 e.g. Sold example but a used MM3 is another good option

Budget 16x binoculars or straight scope?

The only sub-£1000 high powered binoculars I've tried have been to my eyes awful. I'd pick up something like the straight ED50 which is pretty decent.

    May Moths

A Shuttle Shaped Dart, a Treble Lines and something (carpet?) that escaped were all I had, although a Minotaur Beetle was also present for interest.

Monoculars - anyone use these things ?

I've been using the early 8x30 Zeiss (West) - late 50s I think and really enjoying it. Bright enough even with early coatings and plenty sharp enough. Only about 3mm eye relief unlike the later B versions... Can easily use and focus one handed.

    Lizard ID? UK

I wouldn't go lower than species level in the UK, but most seem to be derived from releases of subspecies P. m. nigriventri and P. m. maculiventris

    Lizard ID? UK

Podarcis muralis - there's small populations across the south east.

    Spotter Recommendation

Optically little to chose between EDII and EDIII but the latter is waterproof so more sought after. The non-ED version is okay, but if you're regularly going above 20/30x magnification I'd definitely go for ED.

    May Moths

Nice selection - definitely more interesting than my two Brimstones. two Pale Mottled Willows and single Turnip last night!

    Pug ID please

I struggle with Pugs but I think you're right!

Reliable site for swifts around SE London/Kent?

A few along the coast at Faversham too. Around Davington Church and the playing field opposite is always pretty good.

    Micro ID, Cumbria UK

Pretty sure you're right on Cydia but not sure which.

    ED50 recommendation

Still in production as far as I know, but generally a special order item from UK shops at least, and dearer than buying from Japan.

Appreciate Binocular Advice for Nonprofit Outdoor & Nature Program

I would probably look at the Kowa's - they're pretty robust and optically punch above their price point. I imagine one consideration is whether these can be bought at a discount though.

Very light* setup (binoculars + scope)

I haven't seen those for a few years. With a small scope some of the table-top tripods can be used in a similar fashion though or braced with legs against chest.

    ED50 recommendation

Yes you can get the body new from multiple places - Japan seemed much cheaper when I last looked, but going local might be better. I hadn't thought of the DS being better for glasses users, but I can imagine that. As a non-glasses wearer my preference are the eyecups of the MC's, but my 27x is...

    ED50 recommendation

Body wise choice of angled or straight - really a matter of preference. Secondhand on ebay etc. or new from Japan (amazon.jp a good option IMO). The MCII version of the eyepiece has a better eyecup for general viewing but is almost impossible to find. The DS version works okay though and is...

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

Not technically binoculars today, but one of the few monoculars I've found that I like. The original non-B Zeiss Oberkochen 8x30. Not sure of exact age but older than me (and in better shape 😉). Wide field and excellent resolution with a very good sweet spot. Minimal eye- relief but as a...

    House Martin advice please

They used to regularly nest under the eaves of Bungalows along from where I grew up. Sadly from skies full of House martins they've declined there to barely a sighting.

The OG Leather Wrapped Bausch & Lomb Elite

    They're certainly lovely looking binoculars.

    May Moths

I only had one Shuttle Shaped Dart, four Pale Mottled Willows and a single Brimstone despite what seemed reasonable conditions.

    May Moths

Put trap out last night only to have torrential rain and lightning. Still managed 3 Brimstone, 2 Shuttle shaped darts and singles of Least Arches, 20 plume, Muslin and LBAM.

Reliable site for swifts around SE London/Kent?

A little early but Oare Marshes (Faversham) is reliable.
