Identification

15.5-16cm. It has a long tail and bill and is brown with black barring above and browny-white below.

Distribution

Zapata Swamp of southwestern Cuba.

Taxonomy

This species is monotypic.1

Habitat

Marsh with seasonally flooded sawgrass.

Behaviour

Both sexes build the nest which is a ball of saw-grass leaves, with a side entrance, and lined with feathers, placed amongst saw-grass. 2 eggs are laid and incubated by the female alone.

The diet includes insects, spiders, lichen, seeds, slugs, snails, snail eggs, lizards and frogs.
