Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 7 subspecies[1]:

- P. f. tenuirostris:
- Coastal south-eastern Kenya to Tanzania and north-eastern Mozambique
- P. f. kungwensis:
- West Tanzania (Kungwe-Mahari Mountains)
- P. f. uzungwensis:
- East Tanzania (Udzungwa Mountains)
- P. f. graueri:
- East Democratic Republic of the Congo (highlands west of lakes Kivu, Edward and Albert)
- P. f. olivaceogriseus:
- Highlands of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (north-western of Lake Tanganyika) to south-western Uganda
- P. f. vincenti:
- Highlands of south-eastern Malawi and adjacent northern Mozambique
- P. f. flavostriatus:
The subspecies alfredi is sometimes split as Sharpe's Greenbul, Phyllastrephus alfredi.
