Identification
This species has declined rapidly in the past. These factors qualify it as Vulnerable.
Distribution
Southern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, north-east Iran and extreme north-west China. It winters in north-east Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

Open, sparsely wooded habitats in the mountains
Behaviour
Usually found in flocks.
Diet includes grass seeds and seeds of cereals, nuts, maize or weeds amongst stubble after harvest, and in fields that are either fallow or freshly sown.
