11–11·5 cm (4¼-4½ in)

  • Slate-grey crown
  • Brownish upperparts
  • Rufous-orange underparts
  • Paler at throat
  • White central belly
  • Buff lores

Distribution

Venezuela.

Taxonomy

Clements (2010)[1], Gill and Donsker (2010)[2] and the SACC[3] split Sucre Antpitta from Slate-crowned Antpitta.

Subspecies

Two subspecies are recognized:[1]

  • G.n. cumanensis
  • Coastal mountains of northern Venezuela (Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas)
  • G.n. pariae
  • North-eastern Venezuela (subtropical mountains of Paría Peninsula)

Habitat

Found in the undergrown of humid montane forests.

Behaviour

Diet

There is little information available, but it is presumed their diet is similar to that of Slate-crowned Antpitta

Vocalisation

The Sucre Antpitta differs from the Slate-crowned Antpitta in both call and song.
