11–11·5 cm (4¼-4½ in)

  • Slate-grey crown
  • Brownish upperparts
  • Rufous-orange underparts
  • Paler at throat
  • White central belly
  • Buff lores

Clements (2010)[1], Gill and Donsker (2010)[2] and the SACC[3] split Sucre Antpitta from Slate-crowned Antpitta.

Two subspecies are recognized:[1]

  • G.n. cumanensis
  • Coastal mountains of northern Venezuela (Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas)
  • G.n. pariae
  • North-eastern Venezuela (subtropical mountains of Paría Peninsula)

Found in the undergrown of humid montane forests.

There is little information available, but it is presumed their diet is similar to that of Slate-crowned Antpitta

The Sucre Antpitta differs from the Slate-crowned Antpitta in both call and song.
