Identification

13·5–15 cm (5¼-6 in); a medium sized heavily streaked finch

  • Brown forehead and crown
  • Slightly notched tail

Taxonomy

The Yellow-browed Seedeater has been included in this species in the past.

Subspecies

Two subspecies accepted:

  • C. s. striolata:
  • C. s. graueri:

Habitat

Lower and sub-montane open country, gardens and cultivated areas, woodland edges, heath and scrub.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of small seeds, fruit, such as blackberries and insects.
