Africa:
Western Africa: Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo
'Eastern Africa: Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Zambia
Taxonomy
The Yellow-browed Seedeater has been included in this species in the past.
Subspecies
Two subspecies accepted:
- C. s. striolata:
- C. s. graueri:
- Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, south-western Uganda and Rwanda
Habitat
Lower and sub-montane open country, gardens and cultivated areas, woodland edges, heath and scrub.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of small seeds, fruit, such as blackberries and insects.
