Identification

Male

  • Brown forehead and crown
  • Red hindcrown and nape
  • White ear-coverts and neck sides, with brown streaks
  • Brown streaked malar stripe

Distribution

From extreme south-eastern Nigeria east to south-western South Sudan, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, northern Rwanda, and western Kenya

Taxonomy

Some authorities place this species in Chloropicus.

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Forest edges and clearings and upland savanna.

Behaviour

Diet

They forage on dead trees for beetle larvae, caterpillars and ants.
