Identification

  • Drab tan, or beige plain.
  • Secondary upper flight feathers are light brown with yellowish hue.
  • Upper primaries are darker brown.
  • Underwings are lighter than uppers.
  • Majority of flight feathers have dark tips, lacking in fingers.
  • Long wingtips.
  • Lacks bright red wing patches.
  • whitish patch on rump.
  • Bill is fairly long, considering it's name.
  • Rather plain.

Distribution

Patagonia, Argentina and in Tierra del Fuego. Migrates north in the Austral winter up to Mendoza Province, Argentina.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Grasslands and coastal scrub.

Behaviour

The diet includes seeds and insects. Often in pairs, walks with waddle and tail pumping. Flocks during migration and in winter.
