Identification
36cm. Purple brown plumage, pale scaly appearance to the neck and underparts. Lower underparts are white edged with purple. Red eyering, legs and white tipped red bill. The female is dull dark brown, and is slightly smaller than the male.
Distribution
Southern Mexico, Ecuador, southern Brazil, northern Argentina, and Trinidad.
Taxonomy
Formerly called Columba speciosa, including in Sibley & Monroe 1996. Name has been changed in all of the major taxonomies
Habitat
Semi-open forest.
Behaviour
It builds a stick platform nest in a tree and lays two white eggs.
The diet includes forest fruits and seeds.
