Rufous-tailed Plantcutter - BirdForum Opus

This shows a male and female.
Location: Via del Mar, Chile

Identification

18-20cm. Rufous forehead and crown rufous. Rear neck, back and upper tail coverts brown with black striped. Throat, chest, abdomen and under tail coverts cinnamon rufous. Wings black with white transversal band. Tail with black central rectrices; the other feathers with rufous band on middle. Bill wide. Eyes red.

Female: Upper parts grey brown with black striped. Throated cinnamon- coloured. Chest and abdomen white with fine black stripes, more notorious on chest and flanks. Wings black without the white band.

Chile and Argentina.

Habitat

Gardens, farmland and orchards.

Behaviour

It builds its nest, of root fibre and twigs, in the forks of fruit trees. 2 to 4 light blue-green eggs with some dusky specks are laid.
