Trichoglossus rubiginosus

Identification

24cm. Sexually monomorphic. Unmistakable rich maroon overall with an olive wash to remiges and outer webs of primaries yellow. Tail olive with a yellow tip. Some birds have a very thin pale blue line around the base of the bill ( although this could be the skin showing through worn feathers ).

Bare parts :- Bill orange, legs dark grey, eye deep gold.

Voice :- Rather more musical than other small parrots, fewer harsh, screeching notes.

Distribution

Endemic to Pohnpei , Federated States of Micronesia

Taxonomy

Habitat

Found from dense primary forest to plantations.

Behaviour

Very common, and rather tame. It is the State Bird, so fully protected.
