Identification
13 cm. Red warbler with pink head. Whitish-pink head and neck with red forehead and dark lores. Dark red upperparts, darker on wings and tail. Bright pinkish-red underparts. Juvenile pinkish cinnamon-brown. Darker above with blackish wings, two pinkish wing-bars and blackish tail.
Distribution
Central America: found in mountains of extreme southern Mexico (Chiapas) to Guatemala.
According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species it is classified as Vulnerable.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1], which was formerly placed in genus Ergaticus.
