Identification
Long curved bill, black head, neck, upper parts, white lower rump, upper tail, black wings with white stripe, black tipped tail. Females - brown above, grey-white chin, white breast. Blue eye patch less conspicuous in females.

Habitat
Shrublands, woodlands, sandhills, inland ranges and granite outcrops.
Behaviour
Diet includes mainly nectar, but also insects, fruit and seeds. Its long bill is used to proble flowers. It feeds with Black Honeyeaters, White-fronted Honeyeaters and Woodswallows.
A shallow cup shaped nest made of twigs, grass and spiders' webs, lined with grass, roots, wool, and feathers is built by both sexes who also incubate and feed the young.
