Overview
Peljekaise is the most southerly of Sweden's Lapland national parks and contains undisturbed mountain birchwoods, moorlands, marshes and lakes. One of the most beautiful areas is the birchwoods on the western slopes of Mt Peljekaise which extend from the tree line down to the shores of Lakes Tjallasjaure and Luotaure.
Birds
Notable Species
A variety of typical Scandinavian birds occur in the park with Black-throated Diver, Common Scoter and Common Sandpiper nesting around the lakes and Meadow Pipit, Yellow Wagtail and Golden Plover in the marshes. Siberian Jay and Great Grey Shrike breed in the woodlands and Rough-legged Buzzard on the higher ground.

Access and Facilities
The park is about 60km north-west of Arjeplog in Norbotten and can be reached on foot from Jakkvik, Adolfsstrom or Hallbacken.
The park has marked hiking trails and resting places including Lapp cabins equipped for overnight stays. However, any visitor should be fully prepared for long walks and sometimes harsh conditions. The best time to visit is June to September and access is unrestricted.
