Identification
Pallas's Bunting Breeding Male: Medium-sized bunting with gray-brown upperparts with black streaks. Lower breast, belly, and undertail coverts are white. Head, throat and upper breast are black. Collar and moustache stripe are white. Tail is black with white outer feathers and corners. Female lacks black.
5½″ (14 cm). Similar to Reed Bunting, but smaller. Shoulders blue-gray, lacking the bright rusty tone. Upper ridge of bill straight. Rump paler.
Distribution
Pallas's Bunting Breeding Male: Native of Asia; recorded on St. Lawrence Island and the western mainland of Alaska.

Habitat
Frequents reed beds in wetlands, lakes, and along streams in taiga and tundra; winters in grasslands and marshlands.
