Orange-breasted Bunting - BirdForum Opus

Description

Male: bright azure-blue above with green crown, orange breast shading to yellow on the belly. Female: grey-green above with tinges of blue on wings and tail, pale yellow below. Both M & F have yellow eye-ring.

Identification

Distribution & Taxonomy

A Mexican endemic, being found only in the southwest - on the Pacific slope from Jalisco south to west Chiapas. This photo was taken in the Oaxaca province of southern Mexico on 31 Jan 04.

Habitat

Tropical dry brushy hillsides, open scrubby woods & woodland borders, hedgerows & partial clearings.
