Distribution
Breeds in the Atacama desert of Chile, up to 70 km inland; mostly found in waters of Peru and Chile, often farther out at sea than co-occurring storm-petrels.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Open seas
Behaviour
Breeding seems to take place mostly under salpetre crust in the very dry Atacama desert at elevations of 400-900 m asl.
