Identification
Yellow and black striped back. Males have a dark red stripe from their forehead to their neck while females the red stripe extends from the nape to the neck only. Their tail base is bright red while the tail itself is black. The rump is olive-grey.
Distribution
Endemic to Hispaniola where it is widespread.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Lowlands to mountain forests.
Behaviour
This species has a tendency to nest colonially.
