This species is endemic to the island of Hispaniola, and it is more common in the Dominican Republic rather than Haiti, which has lost almost all of its forest.

Unless you want to climb into the mountain forests to see this beautiful bird, then i recommend you visit the bontanical gardens in Santo Domingo, the capital, where they are very common all along the pathways; they are easily distinguished from the also common vervain hummingbird by the bright metallic green plumage. This is a species that has to be  a must on anyones list when they visit this island.
