Distribution

Southern and eastern Africa.

Taxonomy

Alcedo semitorquata has three subspecies:[1]

  • A. s. heuglini
  • A. s. semitorquata
  • A. s. tephria

Habitat

Near water.

Behaviour

Diet is exclusively fish.
