Identification
27 cm (10½ in); a small short tailed pigeon
- Whitish forehead
- Grey crown
- Yellowish-green eyebrow and face
- Yellowish throat
- Overall dark green plumage
Distribution
Australian endemic: found in New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- P. p. plumula:
- Arid interior of Western Australia to central South Australia
- P. p. planas:
- Northern Australia (Fitzroy River, Western Australia to central Queensland)
- P. p. graingeri:
- Semi-arid central Queensland and New South Wales to eastern South Australia
Formerly placed in the genus Lichenostomus.
Habitat
Grassy, lightly timbered areas
Behaviour
Diet
They eat a variety of fruits, figs and berries, with the addition of termites.
