Lichenostomus plumulus

Identification

27 cm (10½ in); a small short tailed pigeon

  • Whitish forehead
  • Grey crown
  • Yellowish-green eyebrow and face
  • Yellowish throat
  • Overall dark green plumage

Distribution

Australian endemic: found in New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia

Taxonomy

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • P. p. graingeri:

Formerly placed in the genus Lichenostomus.

Habitat

Grassy, lightly timbered areas

Behaviour

Diet

They eat a variety of fruits, figs and berries, with the addition of termites.
