Identification
15–17 cm
- Olive-grey upperside and fore-end of underside
- Rear underside pale grey to off-white
- Orange-yellow gape
- Very rounded yellow ear-spot
- Iris brown
- Bill dark, slightly down-curved.
Similar species
Cryptic Honeyeater differs in darker underside color, details of head ornaments, and eye color. Also compare with Yellow-spotted Honeyeater.
Distribution
Asia and Australasia
Southern New Guinea, Arus, islands in southern Torres Strait and Cape York Peninsula
Taxonomy
This species formerly included Cryptic Honeyeater.
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Woodlands, rain forest and forest edges.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of fruit, nectar and insects.
Vocalisation
Complex with about 12 separate vocalization types given. A frequent song is a low piping series lasting for seconds with about 5 notes per second.
