Identification
Ages/sexes differ slightly. The face pattern is unlike any other species except the Yellow-throated Warbler. Ranges differ, though. Grace's lacks the white patch on the side of the neck of the Yellow-throated Warbler.
Distribution
Southwest United States from southern Nevada, southern Utah, southern Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico south to Nicaragua; The northern birds draw south in winter.
Taxonomy
Consists of four subspecies.
Subspecies1
- D. g. decora - breeds pine ridges of Belize and lowlad pine savannahs of e. Honduras and ne. Nicaragua
- D. g. graciae - breeds southwest United States and northern Mexico
- D. g. remota - breeds in the highlands of s. Mexico south to n. Nicaragua
- D. g. yaegeri - breeds Mexico from Durango and Sinaloa south to Jalisco
Habitat
Widespread in pine forests.
Behaviour
Diet largely insectivorous.
