Identification

14cm.

Distribution

Europe and Asia.

Taxonomy

There are 17 subspecies.

Habitat

Deciduous woods and parkland.

Behaviour

It nests in holes, lined with grass and bark, in old trees; 5-8 white, red speckled, eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects, seeds and nuts.
