Identification

16 cm
Male

  • Black
  • White belly and lower breast
  • Stout white bill

Female:

  • Olive brown above
  • Pale olive brown breast
  • Buffy white lower breast and belly
  • Dull olive bill

Distribution

South America: found in south-western Brazil (Goias and Mato Grosso do Sul, redisccovered in 2003)

There is an unconfirmed report of a female from Bolivia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Very waterlogged gallery forest with many palms and bamboos in the understorey.

Song: tchi, tchi, tchi, tchi, tchi, tchirrrrrrrrrrr, tzarrrrrrrrrrr, zíiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
