Identification

17.5cm. Female - paler, narrower bar of chestnut across breast and smaller chestnut areas on sides of breast and flanks. Large bill.

Distribution

Guatemala and Mexico.

Taxonomy

There are 4 subspecies.

Habitat

Pine-oak habitat, open scrub to tall, dense, humid or cloud forest.

Behaviour

Both sexes build the nest from grass, leaves, lichen and spiders web suspended from a branch.

The diet includes arthropods, seeds, caterpillars, wasps, grasshoppers and beetles.
