Identification
Dull black, slender and slightly decurved coral-red bill, white to grey edges on wing coverts, black legs. Sexes are alike.
Distribution
Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, eastern and southeastern Venezuela and northeast Brazil.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, understorey near water.
Behaviour
Breeding
The nest is a hole in the ground.
Diet
The diet includes insects like spiders, caterpillars and flies; also lizards.
