Identification

Dull blackslate plumage with patch of bare blue skin around the eye together with orange bill diagnostic. Size-27cm.

Distribution

Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo.

Taxonomy

Clements accepts two subspecies:

The second is sometimes accepted as full species, Bare-headed Laughingthrush (Garrulax calvus).

Habitat

Forest and forest edges.

Behaviour

Moves around in small noisy groups. Keeps mostly to thick cover, does not engage in long laborious flight, preferring to glide from place to place.
