Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan and Tanzania.
Taxonomy
Estrilda charmosyna has two subspecies:
- E. c. charmosyna - Southern South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, northeastern Uganda, and northern and eastern Kenya
- E. c. kiwanukae - Southern Kenya to extreme northern Tanzania
Habitat
Dry thorn scrub, usually on the ground in cover.
