Identification

20 cm, with 20cm long tail streamers. Black crested head, chestnut upperparts and pale grey underparts. Female - grey throat, smaller crest and lacks the tail streamers.


Distribution

Turkestan to Manchuria.

Taxonomy

There are 15 subspecies.

Habitat

Thick forests and other well-wooded habitats.

Behaviour

It builds a cup nest in a tree and 3-4 eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects.

Vocalisation

It has a sharp zweet call.
