Identification
This is a painting by Jose Merizio Jr . This bird is now believed extinct.
HISTORY
Formorely a resident of the forests in the state of Alagoas particually around the Murici area , with most of the forest removed for sugar cane the bird was thought to be extinct , a survey found and captured a small number of birds which were then taken to a zoo in Rio. With the continued destruction of the birds habitat and the fact that it is probably a good bird for "the pot" it seems unlikely that it survives in the wild any longer.
