35-39 cm in size, with a 88-102 cm wingspan.

Distribution

Hawaii and Brazil

Taxonomy

The little-known Pacific subspecies P. a. heraldica is considered by some authorities to be a distinct species.

Habitat

Oceanic islands, atolls, nesting on cliff ledges, ridges or rocky slopes.
