Identification

29-31cm. Short legs, long pointed wings, scalloped pale rufous underparts, and reddish brown upperparts.

Distribution

Chile, Patagonia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

Mountains.

Behaviour

The nest is a shallow scrape in the ground and 2-3 eggs are laid. The young are able to walk and feed as soon as they are hatched.

The diet includes seeds and other plant materials.
