AKA Major Mitchell's Cockatoo

Identification

White and salmon pink plumage, red and yellow crest, medium size.

Distribution

Endemic to Australia.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized leadbeateri and mollis. Pink Cockatoo is usually placed in the genus Cacatua, but all available evidence suggests placement of this species in a monotypic genus, Lophocroa (Brown & Toft, 1999).

Habitat

Arid and semi-arid inland areas, especially woodland near watercourses in such areas.

Behaviour

Locally nomadic.
