Identification

Hodgson's Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus nipalensis) AKA Mountain Hawk Eagle

Distribution

Southern Asia: occurs in western India, Sri Lanka and north-east India, and from the eastern Himalayas east to southern and eastern China, Hainan and Taiwan south to southern Thailand. Also breeds in Japan. Resident but may move to lower levels in winter.

Forest and woodland from sea-level up to 8,000m, often along streams.
