Identification

THIS PICTURE SHOW A RED-HEADED VULTURE AND A LONG-BILLED VULTURE.

Red-headed Vulture (Indian Black, King or Pondicherry Vulture) Aegypius calvus (Sarcogyps calvus) RANGE Southern Asia: Breeds in the Himalayas and throughout India (absent from Sri Lanka), and east across Burma and south-west China to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam and south to northern Malaya. Resident with dispersal of young birds.

HABITAT Open and wooded country up to 2,000m in the Himalayas. Nests singly in trees although may nest close to other vulture species.
