Identification
The Purple-backed Starling (Sturnus sturninus) is a species of starling in the Sturnidae family.
Small starling with metallic purple back and patch on the nape.Size-19cm.Has two narrow pale wingbars.Head and breast pale greyish,grading into whitish belly.Shows whitish or buff square patch on rump,conspicous in flight. Bill and tail black.
Distribution
Breeding in eastern Russia,northern China and Korea; wintering south to southern china,North-East India through South-East Asia to Greater Sundas. It is found in Cambodia, China, Christmas Island, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Yemen.

Coastal scrub.open country,reedbeds,wooded suburbans parks and forest edges. Its natural habitats are boreal forests and temperate forests.
Behaviour
It usually feeds in tree-tops in small parties or large parties up to 100 or more.Roost communally in large numbers.
