Identification

This is a large green bird with a short hooked bill and bright red wings. Its eye is brown with a deep red eye ring. Its long and heavy tail is mostly green and its wing coverts are a darker metallic green. The primary wing flight feathers are bright red.

Distribution

It is found only in South Africa and in forests.

It feeds on fruit, insects and earthworms. Its nest is a platform placed in leafy trees or dense creepers.
