Femundsmarka National Park Norway

In south-central Norway between Lake Femund and the Swedish border, Femundsmarka is a wilderness of largely bare rock with little vegetation on a mountain plateau. There are also scattered patches of birch and pine forest as well as marshes, lakes and rivers.

Wetland birds in the park include Common Crane, Common and Arctic Terns and Golden Plover and Three-toed Woodpecker and Western Capercaillie breed in the wooded areas. On the plateau there are Rough-legged Buzzard and Merlin, Rock and Willow Ptarmigans, Snow Bunting and Eurasian Dotterel.

Elk, Reindeer, Beaver and Mountain Hare are found in Femundsmarka and carnivores include Lynx, Wolverine, Pine Marten and Mink.

The park lies 20km north-east of Brenna and there is open access. Cabins are available for tourists and there are guest-houses outside the park at Langen, Elga and Grovelsjon.
