Identification

11·5–12·5 cm (4½-5 in)
Male

  • Yellowish-green upperparts
  • Yellow-green or yellow underparts (depending on subspecies)
  • Yellow forehead
  • White eye-ring
  • Dark grey legs and feet
  • Bill
  • brown upper mandible
  • pinkish lower mandible

Female and immature birds are paler
Immature birds have a narrower eye-ring

Distribution

Vanuatu.

Taxonomy

Splitting this taxon into three species may be justified (Taxonomy forum thread).

Habitat

Primary and secondary forests, plantations, scrub, areas with scattered trees and gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of arthropods and insects such as beetles. Fruit and fruit seeds, nectar and maybe buds. In addition to insect eggs and larvae.

Breeding

The cup-shaped nest is built from grass, bark and spider webs. The clutch consists of 3 bluish-white eggs.
