- Black malar stripe
- Buffy flanks, white underparts heavily streaked with black
- Dark brown eye
- Black upper mandible, black lower mandible with pink base
Females are similar to males but they have a brown crown and generally darker brown upperparts.
Juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Endemic to a small area in the central Andes of Peru (Cordillera de Colan and Abra Patricia).
A poorly known, rare restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
May form a superspecies with Peruvian Antpitta.
Habitat
Dense undergrowth of humid cloud-forest. Occurs at 1890 - 1980m.
Behaviour
No published information about diet.
Also nothing known about breeding.
Presumably a sedentary species.
