Anthreptes pallidigaster
Identification
Length 9 cm
Male: Upperparts, head, throat and breast are iridescent green, and the belly, flanks and vent are white; it has red pectoral tufts.
Female: Greyish.
Distribution
Eastern Africa: Extremely limited range in coastal south-eastern Kenya (Arabuko-Sokoke Forest) and, rare, north-eastern Tanzania (East Usambara and Udzungwa Mountains).
Taxonomy
This is one of the four Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Hedydipna from the genus Anthreptes.
Hedydipna pallidigaster is monotypic.
Habitat
Forest and forest edges. Classified as Endangered in the 2007 IUCN Red List due to deforestation within its limited range.
Behaviour
Feeds on nectar and arthropods.
