Thamnophilus zarumae

Identification

15cm. Male - black, white barred, black crest, long tail yellow iris, black bill. Female - cinnamon or rufous, black stripes, brown crest.

Distribution

Ecuador and Peru.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized, zarumae and palamblae. Chapman's Antshrike has in the past been considered conspecific with Barred Antshrike.

Habitat

Forest edge, second growth, and scrub.

Behaviour

Monogamous.

The nest is made of grasses; 2 eggs are laid and incubated by both parents who care for the young.

The diet includes insects and bugs.
